LEADERS OF THE PACK: In Boston, Chad Finn writes after a "slow start this season," NESN's ratings for Red Sox telecasts are "again approaching their usual unmatched heights" in MLB. NESN averaged a 9.2 local rating for five Red Sox game telecasts from June 4-9, including a 14.8 local rating for Tuesday's Yankees-Red Sox game. While NESN's local ratings through May 21 were down about 14% from the year-ago period, the Red Sox still were "drawing the highest local ratings among all major league teams." Meanwhile, the average rating for all 30 MLB teams through May 24 was a 3.2, flat with last year (BOSTON GLOBE, 6/12).

NOTES: FS Wisconsin earned a 9.1 local rating for last Saturday's Brewers-Braves game, as well as a 9.2 rating for Sunday's game. Meanwhile, WISN-ABC earned an 8.5 local rating for Sunday's Magic-Lakers NBA Finals Game Two, down about 7% from last year's Lakers-Celtics Game Two (MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL, 6/9)....In Houston, David Barron reports the NBA Finals are performing "better than average in Houston," as KTRK-ABC was averaging a 10.7 rating through Game Three, ranking 11th among the 56 major markets (HOUSTON CHRONICLE, 6/12)....Compared to race segment coverage of the Belmont Stakes from '07 and '06, when no Triple Crown was on the line, the '09 race was up 41.9% and 25.7%, respectively. However, compared to '05, which was the last year NBC carried the race, ABC was down 12.0% from a 5.0 rating (BLOODHORSE.com, 6/11)....ESPN2 averaged a 1.0 cable rating for its telecasts of the College Softball World Series, up 11% over last year. ESPN averaged a 0.8 rating for the tournament, flat with last year. ESPN2 averaged a 1.2 cable rating for the two-game championship, up 20% (DAILY OKLAHOMAN, 6/12)....Versus' telecast Sunday of the World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) Featherweight Championship, a rematch between Mike Brown and Urijah Faber, earned a 1.1 cable rating and 1.248 million viewers from 9:00-11:33pm ET, up 120% and 145%, respectively, from a 0.5 cable rating and 509,000 viewers for the pair's first fight last November 5, which aired from 8:00-10:06pm on a Wednesday night. The WEC fight also made Versus the top-rated cable net in key male demos for the night (THE DAILY).
