NBA Revives Apple Deal For Sale Of Playoff Games On iTunes
Published May 20, 2009
The NBA has renewed a partnership with Apple Inc. for paid video downloads on iTunes, reviving a then-landmark deal for the '06 NBA Playoffs that was not renewed the following year. The current pact calls for the sale of single games from the conference finals and NBA Finals for $1.99 within 24 hours of each game’s conclusion, as well as numerous package deals centered on entire playoff rounds, the All-Star Game in Phoenix, and a package of memorable games from the regular season. The NBA also currently has the two most popular free sports applications for the iPhone and iTouch in the iTunes App Store, with more than 500,000 total downloads of NBA Game Time and the video companion application NBA Playoff Highlights. NBA.com had run its own paid download store for the '07 and '08 playoffs, but discontinued that effort following the creation of NBA Digital with Turner.
