Market Watch: Preakness Race Segment MM Ratings Up From '08
Published May 19, 2009
Among the 56 Nielsen metered markets, the Preakness Stakes' local market of Baltimore once again scored the highest local rating with a 25.1, up 36% from what the market earned a year ago. Only eight of the 56 MMs saw a year-over-year ratings decline from '08. Several markets -- including Buffalo, Austin, Birmingham and Salt Lake City -- posted triple-digit percentage increases from '08. Looking at '04-09, Buffalo, Philadelphia and Ft. Myers-Naples have been the most volatile markets for the race ratings, while Orlando-Daytona Beach, L.A. and St. Louis have been the most stable. The chart below lists Nielsen metered-market ratings for the race segment of the Preakness Stakes on NBC this past Saturday, with comparisons to previous years (THE DAILY).
