Reelin' In The Years: Pepsi Debuting New MLB Spot Tonight
Published May 6, 2009
If you ever thought MLB’s draw was not based on its cross-generational appeal, the latest ad from MLB corporate sponsor Pepsi should convince you otherwise. Babe Ruth, one of MLB's first pitchmen, and Derek Jeter, its top current endorser, both appear in the spot, set to debut tonight during NBC’s "Law & Order: Criminal Intent" and ABC’s "Scrubs" and "Lost." The fetching TBWA/Chiat/Day ad will air twice during the Fox MLB game Saturday. Also appearing in the ad are Ted Williams, Mickey Mantle, Joe DiMaggio, Ken Griffey Jr., Jackie Robinson, the Phillies’ celebration following their ’08 World Series victory, old and new Yankee Stadium and the Mr. Met mascot. Pepsi debuted its “Refresh Everything” campaign with an ad during February's Super Bowl XLIII similarly juxtaposing old and new pop icons, with “Forever Young” sung by Bob Dylan and Will.I.Am. The new MLB “Refresh” ad has “Forever Young” performed predominantly by Will.I.Am.
