Dolphins Officially Introduce Red Sox COO Mike Dee As CEO

Dee Will Be Responsible For Business Development Of Dolphins And Stadium

The Dolphins yesterday formally introduced Red Sox COO Mike Dee as the new CEO of the Dolphins and Dolphin Stadium. Dee will be responsible for the business development of both entities, and will oversee the marketing and sales efforts of the team. Dee has spent the last 14 years working in MLB, including the last five with the Red Sox (Dolphins). Dolphins Owner STEPHEN ROSS said that he "conducted his search for months, and spoke to a number of candidates who work for NFL, NBA and NHL teams," but Dee was the "only candidate offered the position." Ross: "I wanted someone who was a number two in an organization and ready to step up and be a CEO and someone who learned in a great organization." Ross stressed that Dee's hiring "will not affect the role" of Dolphins Exec VP/Football Operations Bill Parcells. Meanwhile, Ross reiterated that he "intends to make the off-field resources generate enough revenue to build a perennial Super Bowl contender." He aims to "increase the fan experience at Dolphin Stadium for all of its events, and he'll continue to make the Dolphins organization an active participant in community service" (South Florida SUN-SENTINEL, 5/4).

While with the Red Sox, Dee was "in charge of the Fenway Sports Group, the team's business arm" that also has ownership stakes in NESN and Roush Fenway Racing (PROVIDENCE JOURNAL, 5/4). In Boston, Nick Cafardo noted a "probable replacement could be" Red Sox Exec VP and Chief Sales & Marketing Officer Sam Kennedy, who "worked closely with Dee on the development" of Fenway Sports Group. Another "qualified in-house candidate" would be Red Sox Adviser JEREMY KAPSTEIN, the former CEO of the Padres (BOSTON.com, 5/3).
