Page Turners: Sports Magazines' Advertising Revenue Down For Q1

The slumping economy took its toll on the sports publishing sector during Q1 '09, as the majority of sports magazines saw advertising revenue decline sharply. SI and ESPN The Magazine were off 24.2% and 29.3%, respectively, from the same period a year ago. Seeing gains during the same time period were Golf World (+5.7%) and SI for Kids (+34.5%). The chart below lists ad revenue and ad pages for select sports magazines for Q1 '09 (Publishers Information Bureau).
