    Kalas Passes Away
    At The Age Of 73

The sports world today mourns the loss of one of the greats, as Phillies broadcaster Harry Kalas suddenly passes away prior to yesterday’s game in DC at the age of 73. Phillies games for the first time in nearly four decades must carry on without the "Sound of Philadelphia." Kalas was a "beloved institution" in Philadelphia, a "gentlemanly goodwill ambassador in white shoes for the team and for the city." But his voice reached far beyond the city of Brotherly Love, as Kalas gained a national following as the voice of NFL Films. He earned respect from all corners of the broadcasting industry, and a who's-who of baseball voices from Vin Scully to Ernie Harwell offer praise for the HOF broadcaster. Legendary Brewers voice Bob Uecker calls Kalas one of his "all-time favorite people," and current and former Phillies players remember him for the lives he touched.
