D'Backs Exec VP & COO
Tom Garfinkel Resigns
MLB.com's Steve Gilbert reported D'Backs Exec VP & COO TOM GARFINKEL resigned on Saturday. Garfinkel "oversaw the business side of things for the D'Backs, including marketing, ticket sales, corporate partnerships and sales." Garfinkel's plans were "not immediately known," though his departure was "not unexpected since he was brought" to the team by former D'Backs General Partner & CEO and new Padres Vice Chair & CEO JEFF MOORAD. Once Moorad resigned from the D'Backs in January, speculation "immediately surfaced that Garfinkel would join him in some capacity" (MLB.com, 4/5). D'Backs President & CEO DERRICK HALL, prior to the announcement of Garfinkel's departure, said there "may be one or two executives" Moorad would consider bringing to the Padres from the D'Backs. Hall added, "Our employees here, our executives here are so happy and content that it would have to be something extremely overwhelming to make them want to leave here" (ARIZONA REPUBLIC, 4/5).
