adidas Files Suit Against Payless Over Trademark Infringement
Published April 3, 2009
adidas AG and adidas Canada Limited Thursday said that they have "filed a lawsuit in the Federal Court of Canada against Payless ShoeSource over trademark infringement," according to the AP. The suit "claims that shoes sold by Payless infringe on the company's three-stripes logo." adidas filed a similar lawsuit in the U.S. that was "litigated for seven years and went to trial, resulting in a $304[M] award to Adidas last May." The settlement was "later cut to $65.3[M] and the case is under appeal." Payless parent company Collective Brands spokesperson Mardi Larson said, "We do not believe this lawsuit is material to our company." Shares of Collective Brands Thursday fell $0.22, or 2.1%, to $10.50 in after-hours trading following the announcement (AP, 4/2).
