Scott Leaving WTA To
Become Pac-10 CommishSony Ericsson WTA Tour Chair & CEO Larry Scott is undergoing an abrupt career change, as he will succeed Tom Hansen as commissioner of the Pac-10 Conference on July 1. Scott, who has been involved in pro tennis since his playing days, today is being called the sport’s "most progressive leader.” During his six years running the women’s tour, Scott oversees the WTA's landmark six-year, $88M title sponsorship deal with Sony Ericsson, which dwarfed the tour's past deals. Moving forward, Scott will take his vast experience in marketing and TV rights to the West Coast and will attempt to revitalize a conference with a relatively low-profile national TV deal. Scott: "I've picked up on the sense that some people feel that the Pac-10 may not be boxing at their appropriate weight, so to speak." Scott brings a fresh perspective to the Pac-10, and is already bucking tradition in saying that he will "keep an open mind" about a college football playoff.
