  • Japan Plays For 2nd WBC Title Tonight

    The finale of the second World Baseball Classic will take place tonight in L.A. as Japan looks to defend its ’06 championship against Korea, and it appears the event is slowly starting to gain traction in the U.S. The two semifinal games over the weekend draw crowds in excess of 43,000 to Dodger Stadium, and while Team USA is eliminated last night, players express gratitude at being part of the festivities. MLB Commissioner Bud Selig confirms the event will return in 2013, though there will be several changes, including a possible expansion to 24 teams and a more compact schedule. Selig also implores MLB GMs to embrace the tournament, saying, “This is a time to put the best interests of the game ahead of your own selfish, provincial interests."
