Out Of Time: Boston Globe Folds "OT" Weekly Sports Publication
Published March 9, 2009
"OT," the Boston Globe's weekly sports publication, "has folded," with last Thursday's issue being the final edition, according to Johnny Diaz of the BOSTON GLOBE. The "OT" publication, which stood for "Our Town/Our Teams," was "favorably received among readers," but the current economy and "lack of advertising forced Globe executives to pull the plug." The weekly tabloid debuted last September and had a print run of 13,500 copies. "OT" was produced by "four part-time editors and designers, who were let go." Chad Finn and Tony Massarotti, who wrote for the publication, "will continue their coverage for Boston.com and the Globe" (BOSTON GLOBE, 3/7). BOSTON SPORTS MEDIA's David Scott noted "OT" had "just received its best injection of buzz with Chad Finn's widely discussed piece on WEEI." However, sources said that the publication "was too much of a financial drain and indicated newsstand sales were weak at best." It is "still not known whether any form of title will continue on-line" (BOSTONSPORTSMEDIA.com, 3/6).
