Passing The Torch

The fallout from Jim Scherr’s sudden departure from the USOC continues, with a large focus pointing to the relative lack of experience among the two people leading the organization -- Chair Larry Probst and interim CEO Stephanie Streeter. The two have just five years experience combined around the Olympic movement, with most of that coming as BOD members. Already, Streeter is fighting off claims she has been “vocally dissatisfied” with Scherr’s performance and that she has been angling for the CEO position. Also, USA Triathlon Exec Dir Skip Gilbert says he was unaware of who Streeter was before last week’s meeting. Meanwhile, the USOC is nearing a $10-15M deal with Procter & Gamble, which gives a needed boost to the organization’s bottom line. However, Scherr in December reached a verbal agreement with longtime partner Johnson & Johnson, and the company has already started discussing plans related to the Vancouver Games.
