NHL Attendance Up 1.2%; Capitals, Bruins Continue Gains At Gate

NHL teams are averaging 17,359 fans per game through March 2, up 1.2% from the same period a year ago. Teams in the Eastern Conference are averaging 17,229 fans at each home game, slightly off from last year. The Canadiens continue to sell out Bell Centre and lead the conference in average attendance. The Capitals and Bruins continue to see double-digit gains in home attendance, up 21.7% and 11.7%, respectively. The Devils, in their second season at Prudential Center, are also seeing a slight increase after a bump last year of 9.8% for the entire regular season. Franchises struggling at the gate this season include the Lightning (-12.6%) and Thrashers (-8.1%). The chart below details team-by-team attendance for the NHL Eastern Conference, with comparisons to the same point last season.
