    Higdon Will Join LPGA
    Management Committee
    SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL's Jon Show reports the LPGA has hired former Champ Car Exec VP/Strategic Development & Communications DAVID HIGDON as its first Chief Communications Officer, effective immediately. Higdon will be responsible for "building a strategic communications plan among the tour's various constituents." Higdon also becomes the sixth member of the LPGA management committee, though the first from the communications department. Prior to Champ Car, Higdon handled global communications for the ATP (SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL, 2/9 issue).

    EXECS: Former USTA Chief Exec of Professional Tennis ARLEN KANTARIAN has been elected to the Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia (MSLO) BOD (MSLO)....HKS has promoted CRAIG STOCKWELL to Principal and STEVEN TERRILL to Associate Principal (HKS)....Easton Sports promoted Sales Manager of Strategic Accounts RAY ZIOLKOWSKI to VP/Sales of Baseball and Softball (Easton)....DraftFCB CEO HOWARD DRAFT is relinquishing his role to assume the new position of Exec Chair. DraftFCB President & COO LAURENCE BOSCHETTO will become CEO, effective immediately (WALL STREET JOURNAL, 2/6).

    DAILY VARIETY's Peter Debruge noted Nike Chair PHIL KNIGHT's interest in his animation studio Laika Entertainment, which Friday released its first feature effort "CORALINE," "wasn't strictly financial." Knight's son TRAVIS KNIGHT serves as VP/Animation of the studio, and Phil Knight said, "Some people think it's still trying to make up for being a bad father in his early years. There was a lot of time on the road and late hours trying to get Nike going." Debruge noted Phil Knight "is fond of saying, 'The shoe business is a risky business, and the movie business is gambling,'" but Knight "could still apply the lessons of his success" with Nike. Phil Knight added the studio is "committed to making at least a couple more movies." Knight: "It would be a lot easier if we could get someone else to help row the boat" (, 2/7).

    MONEY MATTERS: In Charlotte, Lyttle & David reported Wachovia has sued NFL Panthers WR Muhsin Muhammad, his Baylo Entertainment company and his brother, ABDULLAH MUHAMMAD, for "failing to pay back $24,603.24 on a Visa Business Rewards credit card." Baylo Entertainment's "goal was to support rising young entertainers" (CHARLOTTE OBSERVER, 2/7)....Court documents indicated that it will cost the Univ. of Georgia (UGA) $1,483,641.08 to pay former men's basketball coach Dennis Felton, who was fired last month, "to not coach" the team. UGA "owes Felton $533,641.08 in base salary, $230,000 for endorsements (Nike), $570,000 for radio/TV compensation and $150,000 for his basketball camp." UGA must continue paying Felton "until the contract expires on July 31, 2011" (ATLANTA CONSTITUTION, 2/6).

    HONORS & EVENTS: NFL GM Advisory Committee co-Chair and former NFL Giants GM ERNIE ACCORSI will receive the George Young Award at the National Jewish Sports HOF & Museum's induction ceremony April 26. ESPN's Linda Cohn, former MLBPA Exec Dir Marvin Miller and late sports journalist DICK SCHAAP will be among those inducted to the HOF (N.Y. Figge "now plans to swim from Trinidad to the British Virgin Islands, ending her odyssey at the Bitter End Yacht Club in late February" (AP, 2/7)....A jet co-owned by Yankees 3B Alex Rodriguez "is up for sale -- after a turbulent year of lawsuits and racking up $376,000 in unpaid bills."
