Dodgers Ticket Rep Causes Stir Over Manny Ramirez Negotiations

Dodgers Ticket Rep Leaves Voice Message
Saying Team On Verge Of Re-Signing Ramirez
It is unknown what the fate of the ticket sales representative who Tuesday "caused a stir by leaving a voice message for a potential season-ticket holder that said the Dodgers were on the verge of re-signing" free agent LF Manny Ramirez is, according to Dylan Hernandez of the L.A. TIMES. The employee's phone extension at the Dodgers' offices "went to the voice mail of another ticket representative," and a team spokesperson said that the representative was "expected at work today but declined to say if he was suspended for a day or reassigned." The Dodgers yesterday made Ramirez a two-year, $45M offer (L.A. TIMES, 2/26). The employee on the voice message said, "Hey, this message is for Ted. This is the front office of the L.A. Dodgers. I know we spoke a couple of times in the last month or so, and I just wanted to pass along, because I know that you guys weren't too excited about the 2009 Dodgers, but I wanted to be the first to tell you guys that the Dodgers are on the verge of signing Manny Ramirez. A little insider info. Give me a call back, and we can definitely talk about some of the options you guys have for 2009 if that does interest" ("Mike & Mike," ESPN, 2/25). The sales rep later said that he "was just a little too enthusiastic about what appears to be the increasingly likely possibility of a Ramirez signing."  The rep: "It's more like we're anticipating and building toward that. But I'm just a low-level inside sales rep giving my opinion" (LATIMES.com, 2/24).
