  • A's Halt Plans For Cisco Field In Fremont

The A’s plan for a $1.8B ballpark village in Fremont, California, is dead after team officials Friday decide to withdraw plans for the controversial project. While no definitive reason is given, A’s Owner Lew Wolff has grown increasingly frustrated over the lack of progress and community opposition. The A’s could turn their attention to alternate sites such as San Jose, but the team will have to overcome additional hurdles in that locale -- the Giants own the territorial rights. Another possibility is Sacramento, where the team has a built-in fan base and an expandable minor league stadium. Wolff says currently there is no Plan B as the team decides where to go from here. Meanwhile, the 49ers and Raiders, both of whom are in the hunt for new stadiums, will carefully watch how the A’s situation unfolds.
