START YOUR ENGINES: ESPN2 earned a 2.4 cable rating and 3,238,062 viewers for last Saturday's NASCAR Nationwide Series Camping World 300, marking the most-viewed Nationwide Series race ever on the net. However, the 2.4 rating was down 4% from a 2.5 for the '08 race (THE DAILY)....Speed earned a 1.9 cable rating for last Friday's Camping World Truck Series NextEra Energy Resources 250, up 21% from a 1.57 rating last year (Speed)....KDFW-Fox earned a 7.3 local rating in Dallas-Ft. Worth for Sunday's Sprint Cup Series Daytona 500, down 8.8% from an 8.0 last year (DALLASNEWS.com, 2/17).
LIVE FROM BRISTOL: In '09, viewership for ESPN's live weekday "SportsCenter" is up 20% for the 12:00-3:00pm ET block and 10% for the 9:00am-12:00pm block through February 11, compared to the year-ago period, which did not include live editions of the show. Viewership for the 6:00-9:00am "SportsCenter," which still features repeats of the overnight program, is up 22% (ESPN).
PANTHER POWER: ESPN earned a 2.1 cable rating and 2.543 million total viewers for Monday's Pittsburgh-Connecticut men's basketball game, marking the net's most-viewed Big East Conference regular-season men's basketball game. The game also stands as ESPN's second-highest rated and second-most viewed men's basketball game this season behind a 2.5 cable rating and 3.269 million viewers for the February 11 North Carolina-Duke game. ESPN this season is averaging a 1.0 cable rating and 1.25 million viewers for regular-season men's college basketball coverage, up 11.1% and 9.7%, respectively, over a 0.9 and 1.139 million viewers through the same point last year (ESPN).
DIGITAL NOTES: The '09 NBA All-Star Weekend telecasts drew 7 million viewers via online and mobile devices from February 13-16. NBA.com also experienced record traffic during All-Star Weekend, bolstered by the "NBA All-Star Scene" section on the site. The section received 1.4 million video streams. Also, NBA.com's "TNT OverTime Access," which featured live streaming angles of Saturday and Sunday All-Star events, saw video streams up 60%. NBA Digital set a new record for video streams during All-Star Weekend with more than 14 million total streams, up 35% from last year (TNT).
