SLIDE TACKLE: In London, Nick Allen reports EPL club Newcastle United F Michael Owen "could lose out on hundreds of thousands of pounds after signing up as a global brand ambassador" last year for Stanford Financial Group, which is under fraud investigation. Financial details of Owen's endorsement deal are unknown, but it "included personal appearances by the player and was believed to be in the region" of US$714,434, "at least some of which may have been reinvested" with Stanford Int'l Bank (London TELEGRAPH, 2/20).
