A's Postpone Presentations For Proposed Ballpark In Fremont
Published February 18, 2009
The A's are reconsidering their plans for a new ballpark in the Warm Springs District of Fremont "in the face of vociferous opposition from residents who live near the newly proposed site," according to Matthew Artz of the Fremont ARGUS. The team "postponed indefinitely its planned presentations to the Fremont Chamber of Commerce and City Council scheduled for next Tuesday." The discussions "were to have included comments" from MLB President & COO Bob DuPuy. A's Owner Lew Wolff yesterday said that the team "will review its Fremont stadium options with baseball officials during the next week, then determine how to proceed." Wolff "emphasized that the team still is considering sites only in Fremont" (Fremont ARGUS, 2/18). Wolff: "I've postponed the meetings because we had so many people lined up to yell at us. ... We're also really busy with spring training." Wolff also said that he "didn't want to 'subject'" DuPuy to a "lengthy public hearing with lots of negative comments about the stadium project" (BIZJOURNALS.com, 2/17).
