WNBA Storm To Relocate HQs From Furtado Center To Interbay
Published February 13, 2009
The WNBA Storm have "found a new home in Interbay, a fledgling 'green' neighborhood that developers and team officials call a perfect fit," according to Debera Carlton Harrell of the SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER. The team "will lease a 12,055-square-foot renovated warehouse for its new" HQs. The team "expects to move in early March from its current facility," the Furtado Center in downtown Seattle, which the team had previously shared with the now-departed Sonics. It will be the "first time the Storm, which celebrates its 10th season this year, has had an operations space of its own for ticket sales, sponsorship, community relations, financial and other operations." Storm Dir of Communications & Community Relations Teresa Wippel said that the team, which opens its season at KeyArena June 7 against the Monarchs, "expects to practice at the Furtado Center through November, but then must find another practice facility" (SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER, 2/13). Wippel said that it is "difficult to find the team's current [HQs] because of the Gates Foundation [HQs] construction and the current Furtado Center space is 'cramped'" (BIZJOURNALS.com, 2/12).
