U.S. Rep Says Vincent Met With Congressmen About NFLPA Search
Published January 30, 2009
SportsBusiness Journal is reporting in its Feb. 2-8 issue that former NFLer Troy Vincent, a leading candidate to become the next Exec Dir of the NFLPA, met or talked with at least two congressmen who later signed a letter expressing their concern about the union’s search for a new leader, according to a memo sent to the union by U.S. Rep. Jim Moran (D-VA). Determining whether Vincent spurred congressional interest in the process has become a hot issue within the union. Sources said that during an interview for the job, Vincent denied having met with any congressmen about the search. But Moran, who conducted his own investigation into why four of his colleagues signed the letter, said, “In each case, all mentioned Troy Vincent.” Moran forwarded his findings to the union’s Exec Committee, which last week sent two of its members, Titans C Kevin Mawae and former NFLer Keenan McCardell, to DC to take a firsthand look into the issue.
