Redskins Make More Staff Cuts; Colts Cutting 25 Positions
Published January 27, 2009
The Redskins yesterday made their "second wave of layoffs this month, letting go a majority of the employees who sell non-premium seats at FedEx Field," according to sources cited by Jason La Canfora of the WASHINGTON POST. The cutbacks included "at least six fulltime employees and at least four seasonal employees, and all of the interns" in that department. The team earlier this month released at least 23 employees at Redskins Park and FedEx Field (WASHINGTONPOST.com, 1/26). PRO FOOTBALL TALK's Mike Florio notes it is unknown whether the Redskins' cuts "represent downsizing in the classic sense, where the work is performed by other employees who have existing duties -- or whether the jobs are being eliminated as to the folks who currently hold them, only to be later resurrected with new employees" (PROFOOTBALLTALK.com, 1/27).
MORE CUTS: In Indianapolis, Mike Chappell reports the Colts have eliminated approximately 25 positions in various departments as they "deal with an internal restructuring and a shaky economy." A formal announcement on the layoffs could be made today, but "most, if not all, of the affected people have been informed." A Colts source said, "There are things that can be done more efficiently." Colts Owner Jim Irsay declined to comment on the move, and it is "uncertain which departments have been affected" (INDIANAPOLIS STAR, 1/27).
