Sir Alex Ferguson Tops London Times' Inaugural Power 100 List

EPL club Manchester United manager SIR ALEX FERGUSON tops the LONDON TIMES' inaugural Sporting Power 100, the "rich and the famous and the movers and shakers" of British sport. The list was determined by the influence people "wielded over their sports in Britain and other sports," the "esteem in which they are held," and the "qualities that singled them out from the rest." The TIMES' Matt Dickinson wrote Ferguson has been "shaping out sporting lives for decades ... and the hard part is not in establishing where his power starts but where it ends." The concept of the EPL adding a 39th game "was built on United's worldwide appeal, although the irony is that no man did more to kill the idea than Ferguson." Dickinson: "If the modern Premier League is a global phenomenon ... then Ferguson is its founding father" (LONDON TIMES, 1/24). The following is the top 20 on the list, as well as other notable names.
