Coyotes Lay Off 18 Employees Amid Reports Of Financial Turmoil
Published January 7, 2009
The Coyotes Monday "laid off 18 employees or about 10[%] of its staff during this economic slowdown," according to Craig Harris of the ARIZONA REPUBLIC. Coyotes President & COO Doug Moss said that the team, which had about 150 front office workers prior to the layoff, "made cuts in ticket sales, game operations, administration, public relations and community relations." Harris notes the reductions come as the team has "brushed aside reports of major financial problems that could cause the sale of the team." Moss said that the team "would rely more on technology to make ticket sales, which he said are up by nearly 90,000 compared to a year ago." He also said that the "amount of free tickets the team gives away is down nearly" 75%. Moss: "Things are moving in a good direction, but we still lose a considerable amount of money" (ARIZONA REPUBLIC, 1/7).
