The West Coast Conference (WCC), in conjunction with ESPN, is launching an int'l TV package that will broadcast 23 men's basketball games this season on ESPN Australia, ESPN Pacific Rim and ESPN New Zealand. There are seven Australian players currently on WCC teams, and of the 23-game package, 15 will feature St. Mary's -- G Patty Mills played for the Australian national team during the '08 Beijing Games (WCC).
LIGHTS OFF: In Oklahoma City, Mel Bracht reports Citadel Broadcasting Monday "pulled the plug" on WKY-AM's JOX 930 format and is "temporarily airing ESPN Radio." Citadel spokesperson Chris Baker said that the company plans to launch "another undisclosed format" on the station. Baker noted that Citadel launched the station in June '07 with the "idea of making it the home for Oklahoma City's 'sure bet' NBA team," but that WWLS-AM ultimately "made more sense as the home for the Thunder" (DAILY OKLAHOMAN, 12/19).
NOTES: Univ. of Kansas Associate AD for External Relations Jim Marchiony said that NFL Network will allow WDAF-Fox in K.C. to broadcast this year's Kansas-Minnesota Insight Bowl on December 31 at 5:00pm ET (K.C. STAR, 12/17)....ESPN Deportes Radio and SUM have reached a multi-year agreement that grants the radio network exclusive broadcast rights to the Mexican club soccer tournament InterLiga (ESPN Deportes).
