Vince Young Files Suit Seeking Rights To Trademarked Nicknames
Published December 18, 2008
Titans QB Vince Young last Friday filed a lawsuit against three people "who applied for the trademark 'VY' and 'INVINCEABLE'" after Young led the Univ. of Texas to the '05 national championship, according to Jim Wyatt of the Nashville TENNESSEAN. Young "wants them to relinquish the trademark so he can use it." The lawsuit was filed in U.S. District Court in Houston last Friday against Rodney Vannerson, Enos Cabell and Tom Roberson, who are "listed as 'three friends'" of Young. Young's agent, Major Adams, said the trademark is "standing in the way of some things Vince wants to do. Even Reebok wanted to do some VY things and they had to back off because of litigation." Adams said that a day after the '06 Rose Bowl, the three defendants "went to try and trademark 'VY' and 'INVINCEABLE.'" Wyatt notes Young "didn't realize it until after he had declared for the draft" (Nashville TENNESSEAN, 12/18).
