  • Rooney (l) Becomes Steelers Majority Owner

    The Steelers will stay within the Rooney family as NFL owners unanimously approve the club’s restructuring that sees team Chair Dan Rooney and President Art Rooney II become the principal owners. Under the agreement, Dan and Art II will buy out all or part of the shares of Tim, Patrick, Art Jr. and John Rooney in a league-mandated effort to separate the Steelers from the family's gambling interests. Dan now will hold a 20% stake in the team, while Art II will hold 10%. As part of the transition, new minority partners will come aboard -- Ampco-Pittsburgh Owners the Paul family, Pilot Travel Centers President James Haslam III and Legendary Pictures Chair Thomas Tull. The agreement brings to an end a sometimes contentious struggle within the family.
