Boise State Hopes New Billboards In San Diego Increase Exposure
Published December 16, 2008
Former Boise State Univ. (BSU) football player Matt Strohfus has arranged to put up four BSU billboards in the greater San Diego area, and the school hopes that they will “enhance football recruiting efforts in the area and give the university some exposure,” according to Chadd Cripe of the IDAHO STATESMAN. One of the billboards will be located “right outside Qualcomm Stadium," where BSU will play TCU next Tuesday in the San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl. The billboards read, "Where we go, the Bronco Nation will follow." The billboards are “expected to stay up for a month.” BSU Senior Assistant AD/Promotions & Marketing Brad Larrondo said that the school "only paid for the production costs -- less than $1,500." Strohfus, who currently works for Lamar Advertising in L.A., said that his company owns the billboards and “offered the school a one-time deal.” He added that he “would like to sell [BSU] advertising in key recruiting areas and where they play road games in the future.” Cripe notes outside one billboard in Southern California that celebrated the team's '07 Fiesta Bowl win, the school "hasn't done anything like this before." Larrondo said, “It’s as impactful of advertising as we’ve ever done in a market that size. This is pretty unique. And it’s something we’re very confident we can try to do some more of in the future” (IDAHO STATESMAN, 12/16).
