Spike TV Prepares To Launch New Rodeo Reality Show Competition
Published December 15, 2008
Spike TV is "readying the premier next month" of a Mark Burnett-produced series featuring rodeo cowboys, according to Daniel Frankel of DAILY VARIETY. "Toughest Cowboy" is set to premiere at 11:00 pm ET on January 29, and the show "will commence with 12 cowboys competing in challenging disciplines including bareback, saddle bronc and bull riding." The winner "will receive a ranch in Wyoming." The series is the "first to emerge from a pact announced earlier this year between" Mark Burnett Productions and AEG. AEG holds a 50% stake in Grit Rock Rodeo, which owns and produces the live Toughest Cowboy competition. The show, "which is in production, has been shot at venues" in Chicago, Atlanta, Indianapolis, Columbus, Raleigh and Minnesota (DAILY VARIETY, 12/15).
