Construction For Proposed City Of Industry NFL Stadium Delayed
Published December 9, 2008
Officials said that construction for a proposed NFL stadium in City of Industry, California, "has been pushed back at least a year," according to Bethania Palma Markus of the SAN GABRIEL VALLEY TRIBUNE. Majestic Realty Co. officials, who are developing the stadium, said that the facility "probably will not open until 2012, a year later than previously projected." Majestic Realty VP John Semcken said that NFL officials "want to wait until Industry fully approves the project before moving a team" to L.A. Semcken "stressed there was no delay resulting from the current recession," but he said that Majestic "won't build a stadium without the promise of a professional football team to go with it." City of Industry officials said that they are "in the process of approving the project." However, some "believe the delay is proof the project has hit a roadblock." Walnut (CA) Mayor Joaquin Lim said that the delay "could be in part due to strong opposition from members of some surrounding communities" (SAN GABRIEL VALLEY TRIBUNE, 12/9).
