Chelsea, Arsenal Tops Among EPL Clubs For Beer Pint Costs

ESPN SOCCERNET's Phil Holland reports just three English Premier League (EPL) clubs "charge below the national average of [US$4.37] for a pint at their grounds." Figures released this week by U.K. Liberal Democrat Party Secretary for Culture, Media & Sport Don Foster show the average price across the EPL is $4.71, which is "higher than the average of [$4.53] charged by football's counterparts in Premiership rugby union grounds or the [$4.19] average charged by the rugby league's Super League clubs." The most expensive pint is $5.90 at Stamford Bridge, home to EPL club Chelsea, while the cheapest comes at Wigan for $3.99. Manchester United fans are in the lower half of the standings at $4.43 per pint. Foster: "As if extortionate ticket prices weren't bad enough, top flight football clubs are charging over the odds for a basic pint. This blatant profiteering should not continue to go unnoticed." The chart below lists the costs for a pint of beer at each EPL club's home grounds (ESPNSOCCERNET.com, 12/3).
