magicJack Inc. To Title Sponsor Inaugural St. Petersburg Bowl
Published November 26, 2008
Florida-based phone company magicJack Inc. has signed a one-year agreement to serve as the title sponsor of the St. Petersburg Bowl, which features teams from the Big East and Conference USA. The inaugural magicJack St. Petersburg Bowl is set for Saturday, December 20 at Tropicana Field and will be televised live on ESPN2 at 4:30pm ET (ESPN). St. Petersburg Bowl Exec Dir Brett Dulaney said of the partnership, "It's a good fit, in that they're a newer company and we're a newer company, and we're trying to get our names out there. ... It legitimizes the bowl, lets our bowl partners know we're heading in the right direction." ESPN Regional Senior Dir/Programming & Events Chris Turner: "We had set a drop-dead date where we would have moved forward without a sponsor, but this came in under the wire." In St. Pete, Greg Auman reported the deal includes a one-year option. Terms were not disclosed, but "based on other contracts with comparable bowls, it's likely in the low six-figure range" (TAMPABAY.com, 11/25).
