Mark Burnett, Maloofs Team To Produce NBA Kings Reality Series
Published November 17, 2008
Mark Burnett Productions and production company Maloof Television, which is owned by NBA Kings Owners the Maloof family, are "teaming to produce a new reality series following" the Kings, according to James Hibberd of the HOLLYWOOD REPORTER. The series is titled "Rebuilding the Kingdom" and will follow the franchise as it "undergoes an overhaul to regain some winning traction." The production "will follow the players and coaches, and the unique challenges in running an NBA team." Maloof Television has previous credits including SpikeTV's "Bullrun." This is the "first venture between the two companies and no network partner is currently attached" (HOLLYWOOD REPORTER, 11/15). In Sacramento, Melody Gutierrez reports the show "likely will focus on the business side of the Kings' operations." While it will include segments on both players and coaches, the "intent is for the show not to be driven by them," which will "set it apart" from HBO's "Hard Knocks" series. Kings VP/Media Relations Troy Hanson: "Where it stands right now, the premise would focus on the inner workings of the Kings' organization." Kings F Jason Thompson said, "It's a good idea. We have a lot of young guys, and (our lives) intrigue a lot of people, especially rookies' lives. We have guys who aren't shy to the camera. We have a lot of personalities and guys who like to have fun" (SACRAMENTO BEE, 11/17).
