Univ. Of Oregon Debuts New Uniforms In Advance Of 2010 Redesign
Published November 17, 2008
The Univ. of Oregon (UO) football team "debuted a new set of black uniforms with a dark green helmet" during Saturday's game against the Univ. of Arizona, and Nike officials said that the team "is on track for a complete uniform redesign for the 2010 season," according to Rob Moseley of the Eugene REGISTER-GUARD. Nike VP/Innovation Design & Special Projects Tinker Hatfield said that Nike "has targeted the 2010 season for the next complete redesign of Oregon's uniforms." He added that the company "aims to tell every class of incoming UO recruits it will have a hand in designing a new look at some point during their careers." Moseley reported the new uniforms that debuted Saturday "were solid black with silver numbers outlined in yellow and silver wings on the shoulder pads." The wings "were composed of a 'film' designed to improve the durability of the shoulders, which have become vulnerable to wear as Nike has attempted to make jerseys thinner and lighter." The jerseys had been "made available for sale at a local store this week," which was "against the wishes of Nike." Nike Creative Dir of Sports Apparel Todd Van Horne said that putting the uniforms up for sale "wasn't the plan." Van Horne: "They should have not been for sale until kickoff. It's hard to keep a good secret" (Eugene REGISTER-GUARD, 11/16). Meanwhile, every UO student at the game received a "free black Nike cap upon entering Autzen Stadium" (ARIZONA DAILY STAR, 11/16).
