D'Backs Cutting 31 Full-Time Front Office Jobs Due To Economy
Published November 10, 2008
The D'Backs cut 31 front-office positions in a series of moves that President Derrick Hall said were a "result of rising expenses and a sluggish economy," according to Nick Piecoro of the ARIZONA REPUBLIC. Hall: "This move was strictly about efficiency. We had to take a good, hard look at how efficiently we were operating, especially in a challenging economic climate." Piecoro reported the cuts, which represent around a 9% staff reduction, leave the club with nearly 300 full-time employees. Hall said that the team "had the largest full-time workforce in baseball and still is among the top 5." Several job cuts "came from the broadcasting department," due in part to its long-term deal with FSN Arizona. Hall added that he is "not expecting further cuts" (ARIZONA REPUBLIC, 11/9).
