EVERYTHING'S BIGGER IN TEXAS: ABC earned a 7.5 rating for last Saturday's Texas-Texas Tech "Saturday Night Football" game, marking the net's seventh highest-rated regular-season game ever and highest-rated game this season. The game also ranked as the highest-rated "Saturday Night Football" telecast since a 9.0 rating for Notre Dame-USC in November '06. ABC's "Saturday Night Football" is averaging a 4.8 rating through November 1, up 33% over a 3.6 at the same point last year. For all windows, ABC is averaging a 4.0 rating for its college football coverage, an 11% increase over a 3.6 last year. Meanwhile, ESPN's "College Football Primetime" is averaging a 2.7 cable rating through November 1, up 8% from a 2.5 through the same period last year. Overall, ESPN is averaging a 2.1 cable rating for its entire college football coverage this season, up 5% over a 2.0 last year (THE DAILY). MEDIA LIFE MAGAZINE's Toni Fitzgerald reported through 137 telecasts across ABC, CBS, NBC, ESPN, ESPN2 and Versus this season, college football games are averaging 2.7 million viewers, an 8% increase over 2.5 million average viewers through 148 games at the same point last year (MEDIALIFEMAGAZINE.com, 11/5).
BLADES OF FURY: TSN drew 380,000 viewers for Wednesday's coverage of Oilers-Blue Jackets. That outpaced The Score's telecast of Pistons-Raptors game, which drew 238,000 viewers. However, that did set a "record for the Raptors on The Score" (GLOBE & MAIL, 11/7)....CSN Bay Area earned a 1.4 HH rating for Tuesday's Wild-Sharks game, matching the October 28 Penguins-Sharks game for the net's highest Sharks rating this season. The net has averaged a 1.0 HH rating through 12 telecasts this season, up 25% from last season (SAN JOSE MERCURY NEWS, 11/6)....CSN Chicago averaged a 1.0 HH rating for eight Blackhawks telecasts in October, a 150% increase over a 0.4 rating for five games last October (CSN).
NEED FOR SPEED: Speed earned a 0.8 cable rating (712,000 viewers) for last Friday's NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Chevy Silverado 350K at Texas Motor Speedway, up from a 0.6 last year. Speed has seen ratings increases over last year for 16 of its last 18 Truck Series telecasts, 13 of which improved by double digits (THE DAILY).
