Names & Faces: Tiger Hits The Links With Sweepstakes Winners
Published October 27, 2008
Nike Golf and Golf Digest last Wednesday co-sponsored "Tee It Up With Tiger," a sweepstakes in which "two dozen ordinary golfers got a chance to play a hole" with golfer Tiger Woods at Trump National Golf Club in Rancho Palos Verdes, California. In N.Y., Bill Pennington, who participated in the event, noted winners from "20 states were whisked last week to the Trump course," and Woods joined every group on the 10th hole. Golf Channel filmed the event for a "three-episode show expected to be broadcast around Thanksgiving" (N.Y. TIMES, 10/26).
FOOD FOR THOUGHT: MLS Galaxy MF David Beckham appears on the cover of the October 18 issue of food industry magazine The Grocer, in support of Beckham's "new range of vitamin and omega-3 enriched frozen meals for children." The meals, developed by Beckham and frozen food producer Findus, include "chicken pasta bake, a traditional fish pie and a sweet and sour chicken noodle pot." Beckham reportedly has been "intimately involved" with the process. Beckham: "As a dad, I know how hard it is to get kids to eat the right things" (LONDON TIMES, 10/25).
ROCK STARS: Activision, to promote yesterday's launch of videogame "Guitar Hero World Tour," filmed a TV spot featuring Lakers G Kobe Bryant, Yankees 3B Alex Rodriguez, Gold Medal-winning swimmer Michael Phelps and skateboarder Tony Hawk "dancing to 'Old Time Rock and Roll' in a living room, 'Risky Business'-style." The ad shows the athletes, wearing "button-down shirts, underpants" and white socks, "fantasy rocking with Guitar Hero's microphone, guitar and drum game controllers" (USA TODAY, 10/27).
