Wheels & Deals: Yeley Selling '09 Primary Sponsorship On EBay
Published October 22, 2008
FANNATION.com's Bryan Graham reported Racing Aces Marketing (RAM) "is selling the sponsorship rights for J.J. Yeley's race car" on eBay for the '09 season. The auction was posted yesterday with a "Buy It Now" price of $12M, which would represent "more than a 50[%] discount" on typical valuations of primary sponsor deals. RAM President Doug Ames: "This is a rare opportunity to get into the highly sought-after world of NASCAR Sprint Cup Series sponsorship with a champion racer" (FANNATION.com, 10/21).
ONE AND DONE? SS-Green Light Racing (SGLR) officials said that the team "plans to field one full-time NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series entry next season instead of the two it runs this year." SGLR President Ken Smith: "We must be frugal in our spending and prove to our potential sponsors that we will be diligent in our attempt to provide conservative spending to capitalize their return on investment." Also, sponsor ASI next season "will return for its third year with the organization" (SCENEDAILY.com, 10/20).
NOTES: The Aflac Children's Cancer Center will serve as the primary sponsor of Yates Racing No. 38 Sprint Cup Ford with driver David Gilliland for Sunday's Pep Boys Auto 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway (Yates Racing)....Bahrain's national carrier Gulf Air has signed a five-year deal with F1, extending its "existing sponsorship" of the Bahrain F1 Grand Prix (GULF DAILY NEWS, 10/20).
