Bowden Recovering From Surgery To  Remove Form Of Skin Cancer

Nationals GM JIM BOWDEN in June discovered he had "squamous cell carcinoma -- a type of skin cancer for which doctors recommended surgery within a month," but Bowden delayed the surgery until after the MLB season. Bowden had the cancer removed "in a five-hour procedure." Bowden during the season "told almost nobody" about his condition, because he "didn't want to compromise his job, and he didn't want others to worry" (WASHINGTON POST, 10/21).
