Nationals Agree To Pay $3.5M In Rent Settlement To City Of DC
Published October 20, 2008
The Nationals will send a rent payment of $3.5M to the DC city government today as part of a settlement in their dispute over "unpaid stadium rent and the team's complaints" about Nationals Park, according to Aaron Davis of the WASHINGTON POST. DC acting Attorney General Peter Nickles said that the city "will pay for almost $4[M] in stadium improvements before the end of the year" as part of the agreement, which was reached on Friday. Nickles: "All parties will work together from this point forward and have resolved all outstanding issues." He added that the settlement addresses "more than 47,000 construction-related issues raised by the team." The $3.5M in rent "will go toward paying down debt on the stadium." Nickles said that while some ballpark improvements "might be noticeable to fans," other money will "go to behind-the-scenes improvements that will subtly improve the stadium experience." The settlement had "no effect on sales tax payments" (WASHINGTON POST, 10/19).
