Padres CEO Claims John Moores Not Planning To Sell Stake In Team
Published October 17, 2008
Padres CEO Sandy Alderson appeared on XEPRS-AM in San Diego Thursday and said a report that Padres Owner John Moores would sell 49% of the team as part of his impending divorce contained “several elements … that were just not accurate.” Alderson said when the report came out last Friday, the “team, or a portion, was not for sale at that time. I don’t know where they came up with 49%.” But he added that is “not to say that at some time down the road there might not be a partial sale. … There’s a divorce going on, and it’s not unlikely that at some point that a partial sale of that type might eventuate.” Alderson: “I don’t think it would be too surprising to most people when two people are going through a divorce and they have assets among them, that at some point, there’s some thought about dividing the assets. … What I thought was most important that came out of that report was the fact that John wanted to remain with the team, in control of the team and going into the future” (XXSPORTSRADIO.com, 10/16).
