NHL Fan Cost Index Up 5.5%; Blackhawks Up 25.6%

Three years after reporting the biggest league-wide Fan Cost Index (FCI) decrease in the survey’s history, the NHL’s prices continue to rise, according to Illinois-based Team Marketing Report. On average, '08-09 season ticket prices rose 5.1%, while the average FCI increased 5.5%. The Maple Leafs have the most expensive tickets at $76.15 and the priciest FCI at $411.30. The Rangers have the most-expensive average premium ticket at $254.98. The Stanley Cup champion Red Wings reported a 15% average ticket price increase, but kept its FCI under the league average, while the runner-up Penguins bumped tickets up 9.9%. The Red Wings’ increase is comparable to the one reported last season by the Ducks, who had an 11.5% jump after winning the '07 Stanley Cup. The Blackhawks are showing the biggest increases this season, and are one of only five teams to show double-digit ticket increases. Four teams reported average price decreases, with the Devils showing the steepest decline. The FCI gives a representative look at the cost of taking a family of four to a hockey game. It comprises the price of four tickets, two small draft beers, four small soft drinks, four regular-sized hot dogs, parking for one car, two game programs and two adult-sized caps (Team Marketing Report).
