TV ratings for MLB games "were down almost across the board," as the national networks and most RSNs "suffered significant declines during the regular season," according to John Ourand in this week's SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL. Fox’s MLB ratings dropped 13% for its Saturday afternoon package, while ESPN's cable ratings fell 7%. TBS posted a 0.5 cable rating in its first full season of Sunday afternoon MLB games, averaging 624,000 viewers. That is down from a 0.6 cable rating, or 897,000 viewers, last year, which was the net’s final year televising Braves’ Sunday afternoon games. Local ratings were down as well, with 19 RSNs showing a dip. Only 11 RSNs saw ratings increases for regular-season games. RSN execs said that they "expect such year-to-year fluctuations, and say baseball’s local telecasts still draw good ratings, even if they are off a bit." CSN Exec VP & Chief Revenue Officer Ray Warren: “Even a bad year is a better year than a lot of other cable networks have.” FSN’s performance was "virtually flat," off 4% from last year. FSN Exec VP/Ad Sales Kyle Sherman: “That’s an acceptable variance. ... Overall, I think we held up extremely well.” With an average of only 8,000 homes tuning in for each game, the Nationals had "by far the lowest audience of any team, and showed a bigger year-to-year percentage drop" than any MLB team (SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL, 10/13 issue).----- HH RATING -------- HOUSEHOLDS (000) ---NETTEAM'08'07% +/-'08'07% +/-FSN FloridaRays3.471.7499.4%6231100.0%CSN ChicagoWhite Sox2.191.3167.2%764568.9%Sun SportsMarlins3.683.0321.5%574721.3%CSN ChicagoCubs4.964.2117.8%17214518.6%FSN FloridaMarlins3.633.1415.6%564816.7%FSN SouthwestRangers1.601.4014.3%393414.7%FSN NorthTwins7.476.849.2%12711510.4%FSN Prime TicketDodgers2.001.905.3%1131084.6%FSN MidwestCardinals7.897.505.2%98926.5%CSN PhiladelphiaPhillies5.755.534.0%1691633.7%FSN WisconsinBrewers7.477.450.3%67661.5%SNYMets3.243.26-0.6%239240-0.4%FSN OhioReds4.924.96-0.8%44440.0%CSN Bay AreaA's1.731.77-2.3%42420.0%FSN Rocky MountainRockies3.283.47-5.5%4850-4.0%YESYankees4.224.69-10.0%312346-9.8%MASN/MASN2Orioles2.643.00-12.0%2933-12.1%FSN WestAngels1.401.60-12.5%7792-16.3%FSN PittsburghPirates2.763.24-14.8%3238-15.8%FSN ArizonaD'Backs4.064.79-15.2%7383-12.0%CSN Bay AreaGiants2.322.77-16.2%5666-15.2%FSN DetroitTigers6.267.54-17.0%121146-17.1%NESNRed Sox10.1212.20-17.0%242289-16.3%FSN SouthwestAstros3.083.94-21.8%6378-19.2%SportSouthBraves2.463.42-28.1%5775-24.0%FSN SouthBraves2.383.33-28.5%5573-24.7%SportsTime OhioIndians3.885.80-33.1%6089-32.6%Cox/SD4Padres4.217.03-40.1%4472-38.9%FSN NorthwestMariners4.168.22-49.4%74142-47.9%MASN/MASN2Nationals0.340.69-50.7%816-50.0%FSN Kansas City*Royals2.84n/an/a26n/an/a
