Iron Insurance: Ripken Signs Sponsorship Deal With State Farm
Published October 1, 2008
Baseball HOFer Cal Ripken Jr. has agreed to a multi-year, multi-faceted sponsorship deal with State Farm Insurance. Ripken will serve as a spokesperson for State Farm in national marketing and advertising activities, including State Farm's national teen driver safety program. There also will be a close alliance between State Farm and Ripken Baseball (State Farm). BRANDWEEK's Barry Janoff noted Ripken, who worked with State Farm during the '08 All-Star Game "to help promote the State Farm Home Run Derby, initially will support State Farm's sponsorship of National Teen Driver Safety Week," which is October 19-25. Ripken "will appear in print ads and also participate in a satellite media tour to raise awareness among teens about safe driving." Meanwhile, as part of the company's support of Ripken Baseball, which includes the Cal Ripken World Series, camps, clinics and tournaments, State Farm "will become the title sponsor of all Ripken Baseball Home Run Derby competitions" (BRANDWEEK.com, 9/30).
