Forbes' Richest Americans With Sports Interests

FORBES has released its annual list of the 400 wealthiest Americans, with entry to the list once again set at a minimum of $1.3B. The following chart details a selection of those from the list and their ties to the sports industry (FORBES, 10/6 issue).

NOTES: People with sports interests who dropped off the list from last year include Texans stakeholder Fayez Sarofim and SMI Chair & CEO Bruton Smith. * = Includes ownership of Pepsi Center, Altitude Sports & Entertainment, Nuggets, Avalanche, MLS Rapids and NLL Mammoth. Also includes co-ownership of Dick's Sporting Goods Park and AFL Crush, as well as stakes in the Rams and EPL Club Arsenal.

METHODOLOGY: Forbes' estimates of net worth included several factors, such as stakes in publicly-traded and privately-held companies, real estate holdings and investments in art, yachts and mansions. Interviews were also conducted with employees, competitors, customers, ex-wives and securities analysts. Examinations were also done on SEC documents, court records, probate records and newspaper articles, as well as assessments of debt. Estimates were a snapshot of wealth on August 31 when publicly traded shares were priced. Privately-held companies were valued by coupling estimates (or company-provided numbers) of revenues or profits to prevailing price-to-revenues or price-to earnings ratios for similar public companies.
