IMG College Adds UConn's Multimedia, Marketing Rights To Stable
Published September 22, 2008
IMG College "continued its run of new business by winning the rights" to the Univ. of Connecticut's (UC) multimedia and marketing business, a deal "believed to be worth $80[M] over 10 years," according to Michael Smith of SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL. The "guaranteed payout to the school will make the deal one of the most lucrative in the country," matching the "terms of IMG College's deal with Kentucky and putting it close to equal footing with Texas." The deal "marks the first time [UConn has] bundled most of [its] rights for a single rights holder." IMG College "will begin managing most of UConn's rights immediately, from corporate sponsorships to stadium signage, print and online." The school "is considered such a valuable property ... because of its proximity" to N.Y. (SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL, 9/22 issue).
LOVE THE DRAKE: In Des Moines, Tom Witosky reports Drake Univ. (DU) school officials today will announce that the athletic department has entered into a six-year deal with two two-year options with ISP Sports for marketing school athletic events. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but DU AD Sandy Hatfield Clubb said that the contract "is comparable in value" to a 10-year deal the Univ. of Northern Iowa (UNI) signed in May with Learfield Sports. The UNI deal is "expected to be worth about $800,000 annually" (DES MOINES REGISTER, 9/22).
