VANOC Unveils Designs, Ticketing Packages For 2010 Olympics

VANOC Unveils Graphics For 2010 Vancouver Games

VANOC yesterday "unveiled its new graphic illustrations to promote" the 2010 Vancouver Games, which "will be featured on 2010 Olympic banners, signage, venues and merchandise," according to the VANCOUVER SUN. The illustrations are "primarily blue, green and white in colour and feature layers of illustrations." The aim was to "highlight Vancouver's natural beauty, as well as its modern, urban side." The images were "created in collaboration" with I'm JAC Design illustrator Irene Jacobs, and they incorporate designs by Vancouver-based artist Xwa lack tun. Products featuring the new designs "will be rolled out" today. Meanwhile, VANOC today will "launch a refreshed website designed to offer an enhanced, in-depth and interactive experience" (VANCOUVER SUN, 9/17). VANOC Dir of Brand & Creative Services Ali Gardiner said that "twenty-five textured patterns were created for the design," incorporating images including "ferns, leaves, fabric patterns and city landscapes." The CP's Stephanie Levitz noted the patterns "shift and change between interlocking banners of colours with names like mist, winter ocean and coastal forest." The pictograms are "modeled on sports photography, fashion illustration and Japanese comics known as manga" (CP, 9/17). Meanwhile, in Vancouver, Kevin Griffin reports the "biggest public artwork initiative in the city's history is poised to transform several high-profiles spots around Vancouver as part of the Olympic public art program." The program, which has a "total price tag" of about $5.8M, is being "funded by the city of Vancouver, not VANOC" (VANCOUVER SUN, 9/18). 

TICKET MASTERS: The GLOBE & MAIL's Rod Mickleburgh reports VANOC VP/Ticketing & Consumer Marketing Caley Denton yesterday outlined "carefully bundled ticket packages for the Games, ranging from those with just three tickets costing $140 all the way up to $1,267 for six events, including the opening ceremony and a women's ice hockey semi-final." But the "most sought-after package may be the only one containing a ticket to the men's gold-medal hockey game." The package, priced at $1,125, "covers just three events: a snowboarding final, the closing ceremony and the men's hockey" final, which is "certain to be the Games' most prized admission." Mickleburgh notes VANOC "has assembled a total of 58 different ticket packages" (GLOBE & MAIL, 9/18).
