People & Personalities: John Elway Launches A Weekly Blog
Published September 10, 2008
In Denver, James Paton reports Pro Football HOFer John Elway, as part of a deal with SportsLine Founder Mike Levy's OpenSports.com, is "blogging, making weekly [NFL] predictions, serving up analysis and interacting with football fanatics." Elway is a stakeholder in the company, and his "brand name is aligned with the Web site." Elway: "I had to ask what blogging was." Elway added, "I had a lot of confidence in Mike Levy. I knew he would do it right. I had stepped back away from the game and this gets me back and engaged" (ROCKY MOUNTAIN NEWS, 9/10).
BACK AGAIN: In Chicago, Robert Feder cited sources as saying that a "deal is in the works" for former WSCR-AM co-hosts Mike North and Dan Jiggetts to "host a weekday morning TV show together on Comcast SportsNet, starting in January." The two worked together for eight years at WSCR (CHICAGO SUN-TIMES, 9/9).
GRAND RE-LAUNCH: In Baltimore, Ray Frager reported WNST-AM Owner Nestor Aparicio "has formed a new company, WNST Sports Media -- with [Fox analyst] Brian Billick as a partner -- that owns the Web site and the radio station." Aparicio will re-launch the site, WNST.net, this week. Aparicio said the site "will look and feel a lot like ESPN.com," but will be a "lot more video-oriented" (Baltimore SUN, 9/5).
