Seeing Red: Rockets Unveil New Marketing Campaign For Season
Published September 9, 2008
The Rockets will use the tagline "Get Red" for their marketing campaign for the '08-09 season, according to Greg Barr of the HOUSTON BUSINESS JOURNAL. The team is kicking off a campaign this week featuring a "series of billboards depicting players melded with a Houston skyline or inside the Toyota Center, dominated by the team's red uniform color." Rockets VP & Chief Strategy Officer Chris Dacey said that the club chose the color theme "to promote the team's distinct brand, ties to the city and emphasize a lively atmosphere at home games." Dacey added that the Rockets' marketing department will be promoting the "Get Red" campaign until the team's home opener against the Grizzlies on October 29. The team will wear its red road uniforms on opening night "to emphasize the point, and Toyota will hand out red Rockets T-shirts to fans." Also, other aspects of the Toyota Center, including the "color of plastic drink cups to the color of the Toyota vehicles parked along the concourse," will be red. Barr notes "Get Red" replaces "It's Time," which was used during the '07-08 season and was supposed to be a "bold statement suggesting that the team was ready to be a serious playoff contender." Meanwhile, Rockets officials said that the team is "well ahead of last season's 7,000 in season ticket sales." While specific figures were unavailable, Rockets VP/Ticket Sales & Business Communications Seliece Caldwell said that the team has sold all but two of its 91 upper-level suites for the season. The 14 courtside suites are also sold out, and Caldwell said that the club is "in the process of building out four new courtside suites previously used as the locker rooms for the Houston Comets" (HOUSTON BUSINESS JOURNAL, 9/5 issue).
